Track-by-Track: A sneak peak of Paramore’s third album Brand New Eyes

Paramore: don't be deceived by Hayley's whiter-than-whiteness... she's a devil really

Welcome to our second track-by-track feature, the first being one on Imogen Heap’s incredible new album Ellipse, in which we preview one of the biggest – and what we often view as the best – records to come out soon. This month it’s Paramore’s new release brand new eyes, the Tennessean quintet’s third album on fueled by ramen / Atlantic Records, which drops on 28th September.

Here’s a spoiler: we listened to the album earlier this month and, from one quick run-through, are able to tell you this much about it: it’s bloomin’ marvellous, a really mature and, dare we say it, heavy album. Those that love their first two records won’t be disappointed by the instantaneous driven hooks and vocalist Hayley Williams’ power to get stuck in your head for days. But she’s got much more to bite back about. Enough of our wittering on, here’s the run down, track-by-track.

1 ‘Careful’ – This is a far-reaching opener, Hayley opens her mouth and the world comes out: “You look like I did/ you resist me just like this / you can’t tell me to heal”. Ouch! Girl got angry in a year… “the truth never set me free (x3) so I’ll do it myself” – “can’t be too careful anymore when all that is waiting for you won’t come any closer you’ve got to reach out mo-o-ore”. It’s so aggressive, you almost feel a bit afraid of this young, tiny girl.

2. ‘Ignorance’ – we all know this one, it’s the first single. An instant hit and probably the biggest-sounding song on the record, the band have told us this is about a time they were arguing and Hayley felt like a stranger to the boys, like they didn’t know each other. It’s pretty cool that she felt she could speak out to them through her words in this song – “you treat me just like another stranger / well it’s nice to know you sir, I guess I’ll go / I best be on my way out”.

3. ‘Playing God’ - a slow-starter. “can’t make my own decisions/make any with precision/well maybe you should tear me up so I don’t go where you don’t want me” / “you say that I’ve been changing that I’m not just simply aging well how can that be logical you’re just cramming ideas down my throat”. Another angry song from Hayley, Josh, Zac, Jeremy and Taylor? But of course – “next time you point a finger I might have to bend it back or break it, break it off / next time you point a finger I’ll point you to the mirror”. These lyrics are very cutting but intelligently written; despite the obvious negativity surrounding the subject, whatever that is, Williams has honed her songwriting skills and created something with depth from them. This ain’t your average ’shut up I’m talking now’ Avril Lavigne song. “you don’t deserve a point of view if the only thing you see is you”, she tells us. Something says this will be a fan favourite.

4. ‘Brick By Boring Brick’ – this track has also been leaked online and is suspected as the second single. It’s strong but takes a few listens, and the irritating “bada-ba-bada-ba-ba-ba”’s in the middle and at the end make us want to turn it off. Intriguing subject though – “it’s all about the exposure, the lens I told her / the angles were all wrong, now she’s ripping wings off of butterflies”.

5. ‘Turn It Off’ – The first in a couple of tracks that seem as though they relate to religion and the band’s, or Hayley’s, struggle to keep faithful when going through a hard time – “I scraped my knees while I was playing and found a demon in my safest haven / seems it’s getting harder to believe in anything just to get lost in all my selfish thoughts”, “and the worst part is before it gets any better we’re heading for a cliff / in the freefall I will realise I’m better off when I hit the bottom”, “we’re working towards a goal that’s non-existent, it’s not existent but we just keep believing”. It’s a cute song but, however intentional, the beat is lost in the words.

6. ‘The Only Exception‘ – This is the only song that’s still in my head, three weeks on from hearing it (once). It’s a ballad, of course, probably related to Hayley’s love life, but we’re not one to pry… also references parents breaking up. “when I was younger I saw my daddy cry and curse at the wind / that was the day that I promised I’d never sing of love if it does not exist but darlin’ you are the only exception (x4)”. Very slow, but uplifting, keys and smatterings of a tambourine. “up until now I swore to myself I was content with lonliness because none of it was ever worth the risk”. Female backing vocals make it stand out more towards the end.

7. ‘Feeling Sorry’ – here we go with upbeat guitar riffs, tearing through the two previous slowies: “your days are numbered at 24 / I’m getting bored waiting around for you”. Another break up song? How many boyfriends has this girl had? It’s punchy but there’s something missing. “there’s no need to apologise I’ve got no time for feeling sorry”, it sounds conflicted, she wants to believe… “fingers tied.. won’t you promise me..”. Again, very angry, but not a bad thing.

8. ‘Looking Up’ – At first it seems like this is about friendship… “things are looking up finally, I thought I’d never see the day when you smile at me. Things always pull through when we try, I’m always wrong but you’re never right”. “I’d never trade it in cuz I’ve always wanted this / it’s not a dream anymore it’s worth fighting for”. But then it becomes evident it’s about success – “god knows the world doesn’t need another band but what a waste it would’ve been”, “honestly can you believe we crossed the world when you were asleep … / it’s not a dream anymore (x a lot) it’s worth fighting for”. It’s a good trademark Paramore track, lots of riffs and tame ferociousness, no anger here but more hope: “can’t believe we almost hung (?) it up / we’re just getting started”.

9. ‘Where The Lines Overlap’ – No idea what this one’s about, but it’s entertaining all the same: “no-one is as lucky as us but not at the end, but we already won / call me over and tell me how you got so far in never making a single sound”. Is it about journalists? Very, very catchy and simple lyrics, a guitar that chugs happily away before growling into huge memorable riffs. It sounds like their new song to play live – “I’ve got a feeling if I sang this loud enough you would sing it back to me”; perhaps Not a fight more a call for critics or fans to join them.

10. ‘Misguided Ghosts’ – Another pretty slow one here, led by acoustic guitar. “I’m still trying to find my place but it might not be here where I feel safe”. “We’ll run from them with no direction / from them with no direction”. Hayley tones it down a lot, her voice sounds so delicate, it’s uplifting. “You are not useless we are just misguided ghosts, travelling endlessly / the ones we trusted the most pushed us far away”.

11. ‘All I Wanted’ – really doing well on the slow songs here! Hayley’s voice is softer than it’s ever been. “All I wanted was you…” quickly turns into a huge tumbling track of layered guitars. It’s repeated a lot through the song; in fact it is the entire chorus. “I could follow you to the beginning just to relive the start, maybe then we’d remember to slow down at all of our favourite parts”. Fuzzy guitars play out the end of the track and, for Americans, what is the end of the album. But we Euros get…

12. ‘Decode’ - Ah, the Twilight song, If ya haven’t heard this yet where were you Christmas-time last year? The band owe a lot to this song, of course it’s a well-crafted pop track, a belter some might say, but its prominence on the film’s soundtrack gained the group a new legion of fans – fans that are hopefully reading this. If you like ‘Decode’, you’ll probably like brand new eyes. But don’t go expecting big love songs, because Hayley Williams is pretty angry this time.

“Claymore”

Claymore is a dark-fantasy anime which has a very cool protagonist namely “Clare” the 47^th and last low-ranking claymore. Even though with such disposition she still remains calm, and compose. Claymores are formally called by humans as “silver-eyed-witches”. They are different from any human because in order for them to kill a Yoma (evil spirit) they actually have to gamble being a full human and take the blood of a demon which makes them half human, half demon. All claymores have a common denominator: they’re apathetic.

a young boy named Raki who is loyal to Clare for he considers her as his savior. He sees Clare as the best and the kindest person he ever met. As time permits, they are separated when they were both attacked by an awakened being. Seven Years has passed and Raki is with Priscilla who constantly clings with him which is also Ironically, Clare’s reason for existence—to kill the one horned demon, Priscilla.

As Clare searches for Raki and also at the same time seeks for Priscilla’s death. She encounters many obstacles and one by one defines her own strength and improving her analytical skills. Defeating high leveled awakened beings becomes her specialty and each Claymore she joins with can easily gain her respect. Clare also discovers the darker secrets behind the organization as she meets Miria, Deneve, Jeane and Helen.

My sweetest Polaroid

Long before I had a camera on my phone, I was contented for a fact that my friends would be kind enough to take a picture of the person I have admired so much. In short, “^{my crush}” not until this year that I was given the privilege to buy a new cell phone with a VGA camera on it. Aside from its low quality (I just really don’t care) ..hehe b’coz now I’ve got something to boast of. It was simply just an ordinary day and it was also much to my surprise that these certain person would appear in the place where I would also eat. First thing that came across my mind was that maybe a Leprechaun is on my side but I guess he just gave me 2 leaf clovers instead of four. The reason is that I was only given a shot when he had his back facing me but the good thing was that I have a 100% clear shot on his back hehe Sad but the least I could do was be optimistic and NEVER give up haha!

The other thing is, If I had captured his face upfront I wouldn’t post it on the blog coz its way ~~too revealing~~ hehe.. Here’s his picture::

Were back!

me, isni and yaz spent our saturday watching TRANSFORMERS. It was an unplanned event for me because when they asked me to join them with mohanna. I was suppose to save my money but then I really cannot get over temptation especially with those 2 people for sure im thinking that it is gonna be fun. As the day arrived, it was much to my surprise that I was the one who joined them and mohanna was in place the one who cannot come..hehe talk about irony.but before watching the movie, I have to ask mama isni and yaz to help me find a gift for my friend who is going to have her debut the next day. (nakakita ra ku! and i hope she likes it!-- thanks yaz and ma) . We then had a ride up to the hill (SM!) layo bah? but it was fun hehe. Next stop was the SUPERMARKET where we bought our food (thanks ma! u know na) then, hurriedly bought our tickets to watch transformers. Eating inside the moviehouse, pigging out with our junkfoods and drinks who wouldn't say this is fun? i say no one. As the cold temperature sorrounded us while the movie progresses into an action pack film with love story in between. Me and yaz has come to a conclusion that we have the need to void for we have felt the ever distention of our bladders. hehe.. until i decided in the middle of the action to rush to the c.r. . So yaz and i ran like wild kids..hehehe we went back and it was a good thing we didnt miss much. Like every other movie, mama kept asking questions but at least this time it was bit minimal. before i forget, didn't i tell that on that way to SM we acted so stupid coz we didn't SPEAK at all to the extent that our own form of communication was through our actions..hahaha! people laughed when they saw us at the jeep. (yaz angayan ka mag-inamang). Back to the story, after every fun movie we always come across the arcade and it was another fun moment.. I tried rapping in the videoke but it seems my rapping carreer is over. We had our separate roads then around 9pm.

Happy FATHER's Day

i woke up exactly 7:00 am (whow! early bird). We prepped ourself as a family up and so was our father b'coz we are going to take a trip around the world..joke! sa park lang..hehe we bought along some yummy and crunchy snack to fill our empty stomach which was then easily digested by our doggies at the park. My father then wished to have a look at the beach we then had a ride to the ro-an beach at opol. we had a stroll in the beachside which was really hard beause the wheelchair is inaccessible in sand. we then had lunch at the beach's cottage ^^,. Not minding the time as we went home i realized it was already 1:25pm.

megesh si mama., I read her text at 1:35pm that she left home by 1:12pm (oh no! i'm dead). I hurriedly wore my jacket and did not took any shower (hmpf! smelly). We were together with my mother in looking for a book in philo which took us ample of time to look. it took us 2 hours to scower over each bookstore in cagayan de oro for that darn stupid book. I would have been a multi-millionaire for winning the Guiness Book of world records- for the longest time to make mama wait---2 hours (peace ma., my deepest apologies jd) . I then flew over to xavier..whoosh! and i saw mama.. with the bangs., one-sided., angry,pissed and about to punch me. (ouch!)

It took her exactly 7 minutes and 16 seconds to cool down.. ^^, hehe we then planned to go to ice kingdom but it turned out to be ice castle hehe upgrade!..we ordered chicken sandwich and oreo banana split.

then we went to the arcade and had an arcade.. NX! we've learned our lesson. and it is: "never play NX without yaz". haha obviously, na failed kami. in fairness, mama is improving.. ^^, (sayaw na lng ka esti dancer sa banda hehe)
then mama went home and i attended mass para holy..hehe ^^,

Scene 1: "OVERDRIVE"

I woke up late in the morning.. got a hold on my cellphone and texted my alienz friends' (gosh! hard to pronounce) then i immediately ate my Breakfast(yum!). Naglangay-langay p jd q haha.. My supposed to be 8am leave-the-house became a 9:30am everyday filipino time . As I hurriedly prepped the jiffy my annoying big brother warned me that the gas and break fluid was running low (watta a great advice to start the day). So I filled up the jiffy with 2 liters of JxPrime. It was a heavy traffic as i reached near cyberia and had no available parking space so I have to round the dv soria until i was able to park and it was only near cyberia..hmpf then i waited mama and yaz with her sister in SnS(the lair of the aliens) but we weren't able to spot any..hehe by 11am, we reached Graphix and obviously mama isni was ecstatic to have her first time experience riding with her baby alienz..hahaha (u should hve seen her face) then we had a window shopping there and took some pictures. Our next trip was to "LIMKETKAI".

SCENE 2: "LIMKETKAI"

The trip to Limketkai was really hot and we were all sweating profusely. but we are still cool with it. We ate at KFC and Yaz took some pictures of our yummy yummy order..(thanks sa pix yaz) we then went to WOF (worlds of fun) and we hit the dancefloor playing NX. again,diaphoresis...SUPER hahaha naglakaw daun ko kadyot pa.load., It was past 2pm and I wondered why yas and yasmin were still hanging around and then I knew that their father was still in the ER. So...(Thank u sa pag uban yaz ug ate yas hehe). We then took some MORE pix and decided to head up to SM where the fun and challenge really begins.

SCENE 3: "ShoeMart"

I was quite anxious for a fact that my brother has warned me. Second, our jiffy is quite old and yet strong(it seemed i underestimated it) and third, i only had 2 liters for gasoline..
It was my 2nd time driving to SM and the first one was late in the evening so it wasn't very busy but this time around it was late in the AFTERNOON and most people go back to their homes and it was obviously BUSY.. Horns were honking, people were easily annoyed and cars were in full speed. On the way, I wasn't afraid but i was more conscious coz i had my gear on minimal speed and every car was always passing right through us even the bicycle..aw hahaha motor bitaw.. :>
as we reached the parking space a good gentleman offered his space to park our jiffy. And ate yasmin manuevered the jiffy into the parking space (gutsy au ate bei) hehe then we had another round of fun in the arcade. We were crazy over the hammer thing, mama was always buying tokens to get the high score. we chose the "chubby" chocolates again and another mentos hehe for the prized tickets. We then had our voices rocked on the public videoke as we jotted every favorite songs we had on a piece of paper.

Scene 4: "CAMELLA, here we come"

Bulilit, bulilit sanay sa masikip..hehe wat i like about camella is the ups and downs. But we were heading to yaz's house which was renovated and i just love the result.. ♥ kawaii~
They offered us some snacks and oh no, gluttony na jd to..hehehe we had some chats but time was of the essence so we have to head back downtown for a while. We fueled the jiffy for another 2 more liters (thanks yaz,ma, and ate yasmin). I had yaz scared a bit as we went up the hill to make our way to the exit of camella. I dropped them near gaisano city and i dropped mama near Makro. I went home to take a rest.

Scene 5: HOME

it was only until i got home that i was able to check the brake fluid and much to my surprise. We actually had an ample supplies of fluid. so i kicked my brother's %$#!! hehe serves him right for messing with me.

june 4, 2009 enrollment day. ugh!
the usual routine. down payment @ the finance office, we go pay for PTA, get priority number, fall in line, line, and line again. "walang katapusang pila".haha. i was expecting a very, very tiring and boring day ahead of me. but my expectations turned me down.
this day was a BLAST

an unplanned and unexpected reunion of alienz (except for ape ). nagkita-kita ang mga reyna ng kaguluhan este kakwelahan. hehe.. pagnagsama-sama ewan ko lang. parang walang tao sa paligid . yan ang tatak alienz. enough.enough... let's list down things that had happended this day. i woke up early around 5:30am (that's early for me) but i returned to the world of dreams. i woke up again around 6:30am. i was planning to eat my breakfast (the food looks so delicious:: fresh chicken sandwich) . but don't know why. oh why. hindi ako kumain. haha. my sister, brother, and father left early so no one's gonna use the computer so nagnet ako. nagcheck sa fb, blogspot, at multiply. i didn't realized it was nearly 7:30am (oh NO!! ). lagot ako kay mama isni 8AM kase call time namin hehe~

i took a bath. changed clothes. left the house unclosed (my sleepy-headed brother was there). sakay shuttle then jeep.i arrived @ XU mga 8:02am to be exact. so 2mins late yepey!! mama isni was there. alone. crying. JOKE haha. a few minutes after, we saw zsai && muh. we talked && laughed as usual. we went to ICE KINGDOM and took our LUNCH?? (ice cream for lunch??) weird eh.hehe~ actually they have other foods aside from ice cream :P

so after finishing the step-by-step process for enrollment. the last step was PICTURE TAKING for our new ID (inspired by KKK). we saw gra. super haba. as in haba ng pila. great thing gra was there at naki-insert kami.bwhahaha!btw, tnx :) parang namalas nga kami eh. tagal pa namin na kuha ID. ugh!! especially kay mama (chocolate fudge :P) .haha. speaking of ID. i look sO, sO, so CHUBBY! hmf!

after ending those tiring enrollment process we've decided to go @ SM. tnx gra for joining us we ate @ turquoise. the all-time-favorite "shawarma" paired w/ chocoholic's obsession shake for dinner. yumyum.

THEN the ELEVATOR incident. lol. we waited for the elevator kase sasakay kami (tapols~ ) haha. && talked about the "kwaylas" (anyong!!) && then when the elevator opened we saw two "kwaylas"(i never saw it coming). to my shock i shouted "hala" for no good reason.haha. we all laughed afterwards. super. haha! can't get over it.

then 3rd floor! we saw my father. not biologically but the fake one: mars. mama isni was like super happy when he saw my father *drooling* peace ma! haha.

we danced. play ball. && karaoke baby!!

Pluto Not a Planet, Astronomers Rule

Pluto has been voted off the island.
The distant, ice-covered world is no longer a true planet, according to a new definition of the term voted on by scientists today.

"Whoa! Pluto's dead," said astronomer Mike Brown, of the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, as he watched a Webcast of the vote. "There are finally, officially, eight planets in the solar system."
In a move that's already generating controversy and will force textbooks to be rewritten, Pluto will now be dubbed a dwarf planet.
But it's no longer part of an exclusive club, since there are more than 40 of these dwarfs, including the large asteroid Ceres and 2003 UB313, nicknamed Xena—a distant object slightly larger than Pluto discovered by Brown last year.

"We know of 44" dwarf planets so far, Brown said. "We will find hundreds. It's a very huge category."
A clear majority of researchers voted for the new definition at a meeting of the International Astronomical Union (IAU) in Prague, in the Czech Republic. The IAU decides the official names of all celestial bodies.
The tough decision comes after a multiyear search for a scientific definition of the word "planet." The term never had an official meaning before.

What Is a Planet Today?
According to the new definition, a full-fledged planet is an object that orbits the sun and is large enough to have become round due to the force of its own gravity. In addition, a planet has to dominate the neighborhood around its orbit.
Pluto has been demoted because it does not dominate its neighborhood. Charon, its large "moon," is only about half the size of Pluto, while all the true planets are far larger than their moons.
In addition, bodies that dominate their neighborhoods, "sweep up" asteroids, comets, and other debris, clearing a path along their orbits. By contrast, Pluto's orbit is somewhat untidy.

The new definition also establishes a third class of objects that orbit the sun—"solar system bodies," which would apply to many asteroids, comets, and moons.
The new definition of "planet" retains the sense that a true planet is something special.

"It's going to be hard to find a new planet," Brown said. "You'd have to find something the size of Mars. Finding a new planet will really mean something."
Raising the Bar
A previous proposal, unveiled last week, would have set the bar for planethood considerably lower.
The earlier proposal also required planets to be round as a result of their own gravitational force. But it did not specify that a planet has to dominate its region, and that omission would have granted planet status to a lot of bodies.
Last week's proposal would have kept Pluto as a planet. But it also would have upgraded Charon to a planet in its own right. The proposal would have made full-fledged planets of 50 or more additional objects, including Ceres and 2003 UB313.
"Astronomers, who are normally mild-mannered types, are revolting against the IAU proposal," Brown wrote on his Web site last week, soon after the initial unveiling.
In response, the IAU committee charged with composing the definition "reversed course completely, and offered up a definition that's much more scientifically palatable," said astrophysicist Alan Boss of the Carnegie Institution in Washington, D.C., today.
"They reworked it and it has become a much superior definition. I think this will stand the test of time," Boss said.
Disgruntled
But for now the vote is drawing some opposition. Planetary scientist Andy Cheng said the definition is ambiguous, because it hasn't answered the question "how round is round?"
"This will be an issue in the future," Cheng said. "Dozens of objects are going to be straddling this line. The new definition is not going to help us with this."
"I'll still continue to maintain that Pluto is a planet," he said.
Owen Gingerich is an astronomer and historian at Harvard University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and head of the IAU committee proposing the definition. He favored a special distinction for Pluto.
Gingerich supported a proposal to call the big eight planets classical planets—as opposed to just plain "planets"—and Pluto and the others dwarf planets, so there would be two classes of planets.
"This would have been much more sensible," Gingerich said.
The IAU members overwhelmingly rejected this idea.
"I think they voted primarily on scientific grounds and were not sensitive to the historical and cultural role that Pluto has played," Gingerich said.
The definition that won the vote is "a bit of a semantic atrocity," he added.
The definition was bound to be messy. It had to be palatable to many researchers and to address the plethora of celestial objects.
But most IAU members agreed that a line should be drawn somewhere to separate the largest bodies from what might be called the riffraff of our solar system.

Last week's proposed definition was meant to apply to all planets in the universe. But, faced with the difficulty of arriving at a consensus on universe-spanning criteria, the IAU committee narrowed the definition to apply only to our solar system.
Richard Conn Henry is an astrophysicist at Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, Maryland. He says he never considered whether Pluto should be a planet until a few years ago.
But when the planetarium at New York City's American Museum of Natural History removed Pluto from the ranks of the planets, it got him thinking.
"This tiny thing in this oddball orbit—a planet? Give me a break!" Henry said.
"I think that, when the dust settles, people will recognize that there really are just eight planets."

a day to reckon... before the exams started me and mama were in the kiosk fronting the soccerfield with nix and tingkay.

as the rain drops started to be an outburst out of the clouds
I started to play with mama as I named each soccer player that is similar to her ALIENS ..for mama, it was an immediate reaction of mixed laughter,excitement and doubt..*haha* especially when i said that MARS was on the field playing in the rain..*hahaha*

After our duty at German Doctor's Hospital @ around 9:30pm

Zsairra and I waited for a jeepney para makauwi na...pagkasakay namin, parang after 1hour chaka kami nkapunta sa BUKID (sa taas)...we decided to eat @ Right Stop...but then again, we changed our mind and went to PAN DE PUGON...the thing is, we saw some of the ALIENS eating along with some Chuyance...we just ignored them...we've moved ON! :)
